Our Mission
The Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank’s (OVFB) mission is to engage, inspire and lead Ontarians in creating a hunger free world. We understand that people turn to vegetarianism for many reasons, be it spiritual, health, environmental or ethical. Our aim is to provide not only nutritious food to low income vegetarians but also support and hope.

Dear Friends
To our Friends and Supporters,
We would like to extend our thanks to all of those who took time out of their busy schedules to attend the 5th Anniversary Party at the Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank on May 11th, 2013.
We had a wonderful time visiting with all of the well wishers and enjoyed a fantastic vegetarian hot lunch. And since no party is complete without cake—we enjoyed two delicious birthday cakes that were brought to the party by the OVFB Director, Malan Joseph and the OVFB Donations Coordinator Raj Dhanasar. We also took time to thank all of the mothers who were amongst us—for on Mother’s Day 2008, the OVFB first opened its doors.
So thank you from all of us to all of you for supporting the Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank for the last five years and we are looking forward to all the future will bring!
On another note we would also like to make the following announcement:
The Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank will be closed from May 12th, 2013 to June 1st, 2013.
We will be open again on Saturday June 8th, 2013 and we look forward to seeing you at that time.
Again, thank you for all of your support and good wishes and please stay tuned for the summer is coming and we have lots of things coming up!
Once again, thank you for all of your support.
See you on May 11!

The only vegetarian food bank in town and they need your help
Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank (OVFB) is a 100% volunteer run non-profit organization that serves two locations in Toronto. The OVFB was established on Mother’s Day 2008. “What a better day to start a food bank, mother’s are all about food,” states Malan Joseph, the Executive Director of OVFB.
Malan Joseph’s vision began when he was running a community program at a local temple that his wife visits. A Roman Catholic by religious association, Malan wanted to channel the food donations the temple receives to those in need. It is while doing this that he realised that there are so many more who need the food. Along, with others who shared his passion, Malan was able to start and run OVFB successfully. Today, the vegetarian food bank serves over 1000 clients in the community. [Read More]

We would like to wish all of our friends, supporters, donors and community partners a safe and happy Family Day on February 18th, 2013. We hope that everyone will enjoy this wonderful time to celebrate the love of family and friends and the beauty that comes this time of year when we slowly make the transition from winter to spring.
We would also like to take this opportunity to tell you that the Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank will be serving a vegetarian hot lunch at our 2370 Midland Avenue location on the following dates: Saturday February 23rd, Saturday March 2nd and Saturday March 16th.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the special volunteers who have made this hot lunch program possible through their generous donations.
If you would like more information, wish to register, or would like to sponsor a hot lunch please call the Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank at: 416-744-HELP or 416-554-5040
And finally, we would also like to give our warmest greetings to our friends who are celebrating the Lunar New Year. May the year of the Water Snake be prosperous!
OVFB Newsletter: April 2011
Spring has gotten off to a rousing start here at the Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank. First of all, we would like to wish a Happy Spring to all of you along with a Happy Naw-Ruz to our Persian friends and a Happy Holi to all of our supporters in the Hindu community as well. Indeed, spring has sprung--but don’t put away the parka and boots just yet!
Speaking of spring, the Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank has kicked off its “Fill the Fridge Spring Food Drive”. The “Fill the Fridge Spring Food Drive” began on March 21st and will continue until June 21st. This is a critical time of year for us because this is when we receive many new clients who need assistance. In fact, according to a recent report from the Ontario Association of Food Banks, 402,000 Ontarians rely on food banks so we continue to need your support. If you would like to make a donation, please check out our donation page for more details. [Read More]
Fill the Fridge 2011
Starting on March 12th to June 21st, the Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank is launching its annual “Fill the Fridge” food and fund raising campaign. The March Break is the busiest time of year when the need for food is greatest. When the kids are at home, the fridge is always open.
So we’re asking all of you to please donate to the Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank to help our clients fill their fridges! Last year we had over 40 students who donated their time and energy by organizing food drives, fundraising and helping us distribute food to our clients. In fact, many of the students had so much fun last year, they are coming back this year for another round of laughs and learning about vegetarianism and food issues. [Read More]
