OVFB Newsletter: February 2011
It’s February and already we’re off to a chilly start. As I mentioned before in last month’s update we are very busy at the Ontario Vegetarian Food bank and this month is no exception.
To start off, we ended the month of January at the OVFB with the help of some volunteers from the Toronto branch of the Tzu Chi Foundation. The Tzu Chi Foundation is a non-profit group dedicated to serving humanity and they promote vegetarianism and live both in letter and spirit of “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle”. They also have educational programs for children and youth. The kids who came from the Tzu Chi Foundation, their Principal and adult volunteers had a great time sorting and distributing food to the OVFB clients. In fact, the Tzu Chi Foundation will be volunteering with us on the fourth Saturday of every month. We really appreciate their support and we’re looking forward to seeing them again this month.
On another note, it is time to start thinking about filing your taxes. Our sister agency Universal Community Help will be conducting an income tax clinic. This income tax clinic is free for people in the Ontario Disability Support Program, Ontario Works, Canada Pension Plan and students. The income tax clinic will be held at the Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank in Scarborough and at the office of Universal Community Help in the west end of Toronto. The income tax clinic is set to begin in the second week of February. For more details please call the Ontario Vegetarian Food Bank at: 416-744-HELP (4357).
Also, I would like to remind you that we still need your support. This is the time of year when many struggle to make ends meet and Food Bank use tends to increase at this time as well. If you would like to make a donation of food or contribute to our fresh fruits and vegetables fund, please give us a call.
And finally… love is in the air! Let us not forget Valentine’s Day -- we're thinking of doing something special to celebrate this wonderful day. Stay tuned -- more details will be coming soon!
That’s all for this month’s update, and since Chinese New Year is also this month, we hope that the year of the Metal Rabbit will be a prosperous one for you all!
